Design Concept
This piece is inspired by the form of a halved gourd. Rounded and full with the top and bottom perfectly aligned. The gourd is a homophone for fortune and prosperity (fulu, 福祿) and a symbol of the beginning of time. The ancient Chinese believed that before heaven and earth were divided, the universe existed in a state of chaos shaped like a gourd with the forces of yin and yang contained within. The gourd is thus a realm in itself, still enclosed but already encompassing all things.
The goldfish, a homophone for abundance (jinyu, 金魚→金餘), symbolizes prosperity, plenty, and prosperous times. However, in this context, they signify more than just material wealth. Swimming head to tail in a hoop, this duo speaks of another kind of abundance: the privilege of having room to grow, affection that endures, and time to share together. The pair swim in an endless circle, illustrating the circle of life.
The opened gourd is no longer a sealed space. The playful movement of the fish fills it with flow, creating a cycle that welcomes energy and good fortune.
Three liuli beads accompany the scene. The first says, “I see you”, whether floating or spinning, I see that you are always here. The second is for, “I hear you”. I hear the sound of the water, the soft stirring of your fin, and the rhythm of your breathing. The last shows that “I am with you”, loop after loop, year after year. My presence is not fleeting.
It is steadfast and loyal. Whenever you turn around, I will be right here. The gourd gathers heaven and earth; the goldfish gather one another; the beads gather time. Internal Image Only Each rests peacefully in its own place, exemplifying “Mutual Accord”.
作品取自开瓢的葫芦型，圆润饱满，上下相承。
葫芦既是「福祿」的谐音，也是天地初开的象徵——古人认为天地未分之时，混沌如葫芦，阴阳二气藏于其中。一件葫芦，就是一个尚未打开卻已包罗万象的宇宙。
金鱼，谐音「金余」，是富足，是盈余，是好光景。但在这里，它们不只是财富的象徵。两尾金鱼首尾相携，说的是另一种“余”——有余地，有余情，有余生。
金鱼悠遊，构成一个无始无终的圆，象征生生不息。打开的葫芦，不再是个封闭的场域，金鱼的嬉戏让这个空间有了流动感， 达成了聚气纳福的循环。
三颗琉璃珠，一颗是「看见你」——看见你在遊，看见你在转，看见你一直在这里。一颗是「听见你」——听见水声，听见尾鰭画过的细响，听见你的呼吸。一颗是「相伴你」——一圈又一圈，一年又一年，相伴不是一时，是长长久久，一回头，我就在这里。
葫芦收拢天地，金鱼收拢彼此，珠子收拢时间。
在自己的位置上，安然相处。这就是「两两相和」 。
