Design Concept
Ascend and Gaze Upon Glory depicts elephants as a focal point, symbolizing good luck and peace in Chinese culture. By combining the image of an elephant with an old-fashioned floral configuration, this work exudes a peaceful, uplifting, and sustainable sense of abundance. It honours the past and witnesses the continuation of an enduring legacy.
The creation of this liuli goblet ingeniously incorporates the elephant’s form, using rounded sculpting techniques to convey the imposing presence of antique zoomorphic statues. The transparency of the liuli enhances the interplay of light and shadow, imbuing the piece with a fresh and nimble charm. In old Chinese, the word 尊 (respect) is homonymous with 樽, historically used as a generic term for ceremonial goblets, evidence of a ritualistic society. The double elephant handles frame an elegant body rife with bas-relief decorations on both sides and a polished middle section. This contrast highlights liuli’s varying textures while spotlighting the incredibly detailed carvings. The elephant’s downward-curving trunk denotes the gathering of wealth.
The Tang-style scroll embellishment, which flourished during the Tang dynasty, is one of the most iconic Chinese adornments. Inspired by classic elements such as honeysuckles, lotuses, orchids, and peonies, the restructured S-shaped curves fashion a continuous design. The curly and coiled contours of the plants is commonly referred to as a scrolling flower pattern and it reflect the dynamic vitality of life.
This artwork expresses upward aspirations and noble ideals, embracing the intensity of sunlight and moonlight, while carrying the auspicious blessings of the elephant. It reflects a timelessness, the reaping of fruits from all four seasons, and unveils an invigorating future full of promise. Through its artistic appearance, this reimagined goblet shares the faith and expectation for a dazzling destiny.
作品以象为主题，在中国文化中象征着吉祥与太平。透过将大象的形象与传统花草纹结合，作品展现出祥和向上、丰华永续的意境，见证着荣耀的延续。琉璃尊的设计巧妙地融入了象的形象，运用圆雕技法，展示了传统象形尊的庄重，而琉璃对于光影的穿透力，则赋予了作品现代感的灵动。
尊在古汉语中与樽相通，历史上，尊是礼器的共名，象征着礼制社会的形成。
双耳象尊造型优雅，两侧的浅浮雕暗纹与平抛的中部设计，既凸显了琉璃的质感，也展示了精美的浮雕图纹。象的鼻子朝下，寓意聚财，象征着繁荣与富足。
唐卷草纹，盛行于唐代，是典型的中国传统图案之一。花草纹样多取自忍冬、荷花、兰花、牡丹等经典元素，经过重新布局后以「S」形波状曲线排列，形成连续图案，花草造型曲卷圆润，通称为卷草纹。 春华烁烁，芳草簇簇，象征着生命的蓬勃与繁荣。
作品在寓意上向上、高志，秉日月光满，承吉象瑞祥，绵延久恒，聚四时善果，展万里一新，传达出对未来的美好期待与祝福。
