Design Concept
Foo dog in “A Thunderous Presence” rises atop a colorful embroidered ball. Its body and hair are in dynamic motion. The cloud it rises upon is on a high polish surface, revealing the golden liuli color streams from within, adding liveliness of the creation.
Different from the classic playful foo dog, this sculpture shows the mighty side. Standing on its powerful hind legs, it grasps the ball with its forelegs. With a majestic and confident gaze, it opens its month for a thunderous roar. It spins the ball in perpetuity, rolling in fortune, a symbol of luck at hand.
《震慑八方》的狮子，仰身而起扑住彩球，腾起的一瞬间，鬃毛飞起，全身充满动感。而腾起的彩云，通过侧面的抛光面，露出琉璃内部的金红色琉纹，更为作品加上了动感的韵味。
与常见的中国狮稍有不同， 《震慑八方》体现出狮子威猛的一面，作品中狮子，壮实的身体站立而起，强有力的臂膀，将彩球牢牢把握住，威严表情中，尽是自信神态，张开的大嘴，仿佛吼出一声霹雳，威震天下。因勇而威的狮子，威风凛凛。
在传统美术中，狮戏绣球在唐宋时期的装饰图案中比较流行。 《坤舆图》记载“（狮）为百兽王，……又最有情，受人德必报。……掷以球，则腾跳转弄不息。”狮子滚滚抱起的，既是滚滚的好运，更是吉祥在握的美好寓意。
