Design Concept
Designed against a circular backdrop, a pair of phoenixes perch on the limbs of a bourgeoning plum tree. The circle signifies wholeness, evoking a jade disc or the full moon. The plum blossom is well representing nobility; and promise that good things are on the way.
The phoenixes gaze toward one another, forming graceful S curves. One is poised in flight, its sweeping tail feathers tracing the artwork’s outline with elegance and ease. The other rests upon the plum branches, wings folded in. Its tail drapes like the train of a ceremonial robe, as if drifting gently with a breeze, the feather tips rise lightly to complete an arc. The phoenix embodies auspiciousness and renewal. They express a moment of perfect accord and fulfillment.
These three fortuitous motifs are brought together in a single work, creating a dialogue through evocative imagery. This is also the most fundamental meaning of unity: not to compete or vie for attention, nor to overshadow the other, yet neither remains silent. You speak, then I. Between our two voices lie an invisible thread that bonds us.
